World’s first renewable drinking water, sourced from the sky and sustainably bottled, to be offered across Aruba

Antilla Energy to offer SOURCE®, a premium drinking water made from pure sunlight and air

SOURCE® Aruba to be locally produced and sustainably bottled in Alto Vista

Revolutionary product offers eco-friendly alternative to desalination, imports, and plastic bottles

Oct. 19, 2021 – ORANJESTAD, Aruba and SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.— Antilla Energy, VBA, Aruba’s leading provider of eco-conscious products and innovative recycling solutions, today announced plans to launch SOURCE®, the world’s first renewable, sustainable bottled water, across Aruba.

By tapping the sky for the best water on earth, SOURCE Global, PBC has created the world’s only premium bottled drinking water that’s sustainable inside and out. SOURCE® Water comes from an entirely new, endlessly renewable, and locally grown resource — the pure water vapor in the air — and is harvested using nothing but the sun. It starts pure, is mineralized for great taste and good health, and is packaged in reusable, recyclable bottles. Because SOURCE® is locally made, it reflects the unique terroir of the region and has a low carbon footprint. For every liter sold, SOURCE and its partners donate a litre of the same world-class drinking water to local, water-stressed communities.

Aruba has no source of freshwater on the island and relies heavily on seawater distilled in a saltwater desalination plants, a process that uses a significant amount of electricity and leaves a large carbon footprint behind, while brine disposal damages reefs and ocean life. The country is moving toward a full ban of single-use plastics, but the Caribbean Islands, including Aruba, are recognized as the biggest plastic polluters per capita in the world. Offering locally produced SOURCE® can mitigate these challenges and help protect Aruba’s unique, delicate environment.

Antilla, a leader in sustainability and circular distribution models, will offer SOURCE® still, sparkling, and flavored sparkling water, packaged in recyclable glass, to restaurants, hotels, and supermarkets. The company will use a bottle return program with restaurants and hotels, similar to its successful cooking oil collection program, to recycle SOURCE bottles. It expects SOURCE® Aruba to be available to consumers next year.

“Visitors and locals in Aruba are increasingly interested in sustainable products and eco-friendly experiences. SOURCE® Aruba addresses this gap in the bottled water market in an extremely progressive and powerful new way, and we are confident this premium, delicious drinking water will quickly become a market leader,” said Abe Dyck, Director, Antilla Energy, VBA. “We’re proud of our long-standing commitment to sustainability and protecting the environment. Our goal is to help change the dynamics of waste management in Aruba, and we expect SOURCE® Aruba to offset 1 million plastic water bottles in the first year of production alone. Partnering with SOURCE to deliver a true ‘made-in- Aruba’ first is both exciting and humbling.”

SOURCE® Water is produced by patented Hydropanel technology, which uses the energy of the sun to create premium drinking water by drawing pure, constantly replenished water vapor out of the sky. SOURCE Hydropanels operate entirely off the grid without electricity or traditional infrastructure. Each panel generates a large volume of water, with multi-panel water farms delivering sustainably sourced drinking water at a significant scale.

“With this revolutionary technology, SOURCE is transforming the drinking water experience. We’re redefining what it means to create premium. eco-friendly consumer products, and we’re excited to partner with Antilla Energy to bring SOURCE® to Aruba’s residents and visitors,” said Neil Grimmer, Brand President of SOURCE Global, PBC. “This premium product is designed for conscious consumers who care about sustainability, community, health and wellbeing, and SOURCE® Water embodies each of these values.”

SOURCE® Aruba will be made by a Hydropanel water farm and bottling facility in Alto Vista. For every liter of SOURCE® Aruba water consumers buy, SOURCE and Antilla will, through funding for community water farms, give a liter of the same premium water found in a SOURCE bottle to people living in local, water-stressed areas. The program can help solve an urgent problem in the region, which is challenged by limited freshwater resources, aging infrastructure and drought conditions, leading The World Bank to classify many Caribbean islands as “water scarce.”

Hydropanel General Installation Requirements:

  • Roof mounted hydropanels must be at least 3 feet (1 meter) away from the edge of any structure.
  •
  • Adequate structural integrity of the roof is required. Do not install on a roof that is damaged or otherwise insufficient to hold the weight and wind loads of the hydropanel.
  •
  • Consider whether there is space for a crane to set up and lift the hydropanels to their mounting location.
  • Ground locations should be firm, level, and evenly composed. The hydropanel can be placed on blocks, concrete, or mounted to lumber to provide a stable base to sit on.
  •
  • Consider factors like soil composition, and how to manage erosion or plant growth over time.
  •
  • Avoid installing the hydropanel where they may be wetted from irrigation sprinklers.
  •
  • Ensure the hydropanel is raised above the specified flood plain.
  •
  • Hydropanel should be anchored to the ground or sufficiently ballasted to prevent movement or damage from high winds.

Hydropanel General Installation Requirements:

  • Sunny mounting location – The SOURCE Hydropanel works best in full sun. Unobstructed sunlight required at least 5 hours per day. Avoid placing under shading objects such as trees, buildings, etc.
  • 4 x 6 foot (1.2 x 1.8 meters) mounting area per Hydropanel.
  • Minimum clearance of 1ft (30cm) in front of and behind the panels to allow access for service.
  • Minimum 3 inches (8 cm) between hydropanels from side to side within an array.
  • SOURCE Hydropanels must be installed at least 15 feet (5 meters) away from windows and should be positioned considering hydropanel sound with respect to living spaces.
  • SOURCE Hydropanels must be level from side-to-side with a maximum deviation of 20mm.
  • Hydropanel must be South Facing (180°) for locations in the Northern Hemisphere, or North facing (0°) for locations in the Southern Hemisphere.
  • The installation surface must be level. For example, a flat roof, or level ground.

Roof Mount Requirements:

  • Roof mounted hydropanels must be at least 3 feet (1 meter) away from the edge of any structure.

Hydropanel Calculator

The amount of water you consume will determine how many panels you’ll need and the size of tanks we recommend. Use our calculator below for our panel and tank recommendation.

Each panel produces on average 180 bottles per month (16.9 oz bottles). For a more accurate estimation based on your location use this tool.
